A: Amish people-commonly referred to as “Plain people”-Lancaster, PA-People have old traditions and are separated from the world-renowned for handmade items and handcrafts

B: Bill Cosby-entertainer, author comedian-born in Germantown, neighborhood in Philadelphia-“The Cosby Show”

C: Caves and Coal mines-“Black gold” is a nickname for coal, a solid made from fossilized plants

D: Whitetail Deer-official state animal-thrive in PA-EVERYWHERE where I live!!!

E: Easton-town/birthplace of crayons

F: Falling water-designed by Frank Lloyd Wright-house built over a water fall

G: Gettysburg-Civil war battle ground-burial ground for soldiers

H: Harrisburg- state government-located on Susquehanna River, southern PA

I: Inventions- Ben Franklin-lightening rod, bifocals, stove

J: James Buchanan- Fifteenth President-had legal practice in Lancaster

K: Keystone State- PA’s nickname because it was located in the center of the original thirteen colonies

L: Liberty Bell-Located in Philadelphia “Let Freedom Ring!”

M: Milton Hershey-The “Chocolate King”. Created milk chocolate-built a town, Hershey!

N: Native Americans- Lived in PA before Europeans arrived

O: Ore-rock with iron inside-Pittsburgh’s giant steel mills

P: Punxsutawny Phil-Ground hog day-February 2nd-marks the midpoint between beginning of winter and beginning of spring

Q: Quakers-William Penn-known founder of PA

R: Railroads-Railroads part of PA history-now are trails for hiking and biking

S: State Ship- U.S. ship Niagara-Northwest territory in war of 1812

T: Titusville-U.S town where first oil well was located

U: Underground railroad-secret route to freedom for the slaves

V: Valley Forge-American revolution-George Washington sent his troops there to endure 6 brutal months

W: Williamsport- Carl E. Stotz began little league baseball

X: marks the spot on the map PA’s largest city-Philadelphia founded by William Penn-Southeastern part of PA along the Delaware River

Y: Yellow and Blue-PA’s state flag-coat of arms on a blue field-yellow fringe

Z: Zoo- First one in the Nation founded in Philadelphia, PA

This book emphasizes important historical landmarks, people, inventions, and aspects of Pennsylvania. I think this is a great book for children to read because it not only reviews the alphabet but it tells you important and historical facts about Pennsylvania!
